Ever since I was a kid no matter what I picked up, snowboard or skateboard, John Cardiel was one of those guys who was always there. In the videos or magazines he was always going faster, higher, spinning more, and flipping more than anyone I had ever met. All with the biggest smile on his face.

That video is from 2001, in 2007 John was in an accident while on a skate tour of Australia.  The doctors told him he most likely never walk again.  Here is a link to part one of a recent 4 part interview.
